The wraps are Thomas brown, and the guides are black left-hand (“English”) twist, as original. Stripper has a white agate. Tips have a few turns of orange by the ferrule wrap. Hookkeeper on winding check, standard for a Special. 5-1/2” cigar grip is stained from about 80 years of use. Aluminum screw downlock reel seat with walnut spacer and nickel silver cap. Cap is marked “F.E. Thomas/Special/Bangor, Me.”. The cap is also marked F 840. Thomas Rod Co. sold it on Dec. 16, 1946. The 3 tips all look original. Replacement olive bag and contemporary Thomas tube. This is a fast dry fly rod that shoots a 5-weight line with great accuracy. $ 1850.
